Digital Learning

Digital Learning at Surfside

At Surfside Primary School we wish to provide a learning environment for all students that is stimulating, caters for multiple learning needs, and promotes a curriculum that is rich, engaging and purposeful within a 21st Century context.

A large part of this is ensuring that we as a school are consistently thinking about contemporary teaching and learning practices and how these models of teaching and learning can best support our students.

Digital Learning Vision

Surfside Primary School will endeavour to cater for all students and their learning by delivering a curriculum that is engaging, relevant and that focuses on contemporary trends in education. The adoption and effective integration of various digital technologies will provide students and staff with the ability to personalise learning, transform teaching, and create inspirational practices that directly impact on achievement. Through these experiences, students will be empowered to leverage their own skills and strengths to undertake deep learning opportunities that encourage collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, innovation and independence.

The below 5 achievement outcomes help to further support development throughout the curriculum .

Digital Learning Achievement Outcomes.

  1. Students at Surfside Primary School will utilise technology to create and publish digital content that supports their learning, demonstrates growth in learning and promotes the engaging curriculum being delivered.
  2. New knowledge and understandings gained by students will not merely be learned, but also applied, shared, and celebrated in a collaborative format that reaches beyond the school setting. The adoption of a 1:1 program will encourage greater long term employability skills that will be relevant between multiple industries.
  3. A digital learning culture of knowledge adoption followed by skill acquisition will be the focus, rather than traditional technology integration and methods solely geared towards information consumption. This supports our desire to develop future ready (transferable) skill sets in our students such as collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, design thinking, and global mindset.
  4. Technology adoption use will encourage a transformative approach towards offering alternative learning opportunities. This will improve student abilities towards personalising instruction and creating independence. Technology will become an enabler for students to manage their learning, both locally on their device, as well as through using cloud based technologies, as adults would use them in their professional lives.
  5. Students develop, encourage and understand the responsibilities of online digital citizenship and what the outcomes of both positive and negative behaviour exhibited online can be. They have a deeper understanding that they are collectively responsible in ensuring all members of a collaborative society act accordingly.

BYOD @ Surfside PS

Surfside is committed to providing its students with the best access to learning technologies and digital learning experiences. Our 1:1 BYOD iPad program will cater for all students in years 3 to 6 by supporting current curriculum programs in a digital context. Students in Foundation to 2 will gain skills and experience through the use of class based devices.

Through increased access to technology, students can leverage learning tools that are highly differentiated, collaborative and experienatial. The precise application of technology and quality instruction can enhance learning. Moreover, with increased connectivity between school life, private life and social life, mobile devices open up the possibility for new models of instruction outside of the traditional classroom setting
