Parents and carers continue to be a vital partner in their child’s learning and engagement and in the Surfside Primary School community. We work towards actively promoting a wide range of opportunities for parents to engage in the school community where they feel most comfortable contributing to.
Our primary connections for parents are our:
Parent/Carer Representatives:
Parent/carer representatives, who focus on the connection, communication and support within the class group and then looking out at supporting the wider school community through connecting our community and providing opportunities to fundraise for our school.
Parents can be directly involved with these opportunities within the school to a large or small extent or also contribute to the school or classroom in many other ways including:
-
School council & sub-committees
-
Kitchen and Garden Program
-
Excursions
-
Sport/Coaching
-
Working bees
-
Fundraising
-
Classroom helpers
- Special whole school events
- Incursions
- Camps
- Canteen
- Social events
Classroom and Program Helpers:
At Surfside Primary School we welcome parents to be a part of the classroom environment and offer all parents a short ‘Parent Helper Course’. This session in conjunction with an induction will have a focus on Literacy and Numeracy and is a requirement for all parents to complete before helping in classrooms.
This course provides parents with a deeper understanding of our approach to Literacy and Numeracy along with insights and strategies to use in the classroom when supporting students. It also outlines the expectations in regard to the activities, support for individuals and small groups and privacy and confidentiality. It is also a requirement that all helpers and volunteers working with students must hold a current working with children check (WWCC) and most up to date vaccination requirements.
SeeSaw:
We are excited to share our classroom learning with parents/carers via the online platform of Seesaw. Seesaw gives students tools to capture, reflect and share their learning. This then offers parents/carers a window into our classrooms and into your child’s learning.
It also provides opportunities for you to engage in conversations around your child’s learning. Families connect to their child’s Seesaw journal to participate in their student’s learning, see student work, and celebrate progress.
Student content in Seesaw is only accessible by teacher, student and by parents/carers that have been approved. It isn’t public on the web and never shared with third parties. Parents will only get updates for their child and can only access their child’s work.
We encourage parents/carers to engage with Seesaw and their child’s learning.
Compass:
As part of our commitment to maintaining strong links between home and school we use the Compass platform as a central access point for all communication and information for our Surfside community.
Compass is the primary communication tool for Surfside Primary School and all school newsletters, notifications, excursion consents, payments, fees and student reports are accessible via Compass.
Families have a unique family username and password which is provided to each family upon enrolment. You can access Compass via an App on your phone or the Compass website on a tablet or home computer.
